Science Bloopers
Dinosaurs and Mammals? (Posted: 4/24/2009)
Ice Age 3. The science that went bad.
What is wrong with this picture? Among other things: the dinosaurs and mammals depicted in the movie did not cohabited the Earth at the same time, in fact they were millions of years apart. The movie is based on the time that last glaciation was happening, which roughly corresponds to the time when mammoths and saber-tooth tigers were around, mainly during the Quaternary (18,000 years ago). Whereas the dinosaur depicted in the picture (T-Rex), as well as most dinosaurs went extinct during the Cretaceous/ Paleogene period (also known as the K/T boundary), roughly 65 million years ago. This might lead to misinterpretations of the natural history of the Earth.
